5 common mistakes B2B marketers do
B2B marketing evolving into B2C marketing practices. Let's dig into!
Hello all,
Maybe there are B2B MARKETERS here 🚨
I worked for +3 years in B2B marketing as well.
In this week’s post, I want to share my observations about the most common 5 mistakes B2B marketers make👇
1. Telling features instead of outcomes
Business clients only care about how your product’s features will help them:
save money or/ and time
make more money
That’s it. Don’t overcomplicate it. Tell the outcomes they will experience by working with you.
2. Lack of empathy
Firstly, you should put yourself in the client's position for efficient problem-solving. If you don't deeply understand their painful problems, emotions, and goals. You can't market your products/ solutions.
3. Ignoring the importance of branding
Most SMBs really don't care about branding. They don't intend to invest money in this. Big mistake. As well as you tell the story of your company with your mission and vision, you exist in the market for years. This is how you build reputation and trust so that people want to work/ partner with you.
4. Lack of storytelling with their messages
Facts tell, story sells. The most important behavioral change in marketing that I have observed since the pandemic started:
Authenticity became the number one differentiator. If you want to impress people with your campaigns, you had better be authentic. If you ask me how can you do that? Just be yourself.
My another fav explanation of authenticity is said by Netflix CMO Bozoma Saint John:
Authenticity means tapping into everything we are, and expressing it, and not being ashamed of it -- because the shame is what will steer you wrong.
5. Relying on short-term strategy instead of a long-term strategy
Most B2B marketers invest in short-term strategies with the purpose of quick results. It takes time to execute a marketing plan. Think long-term to achieve sustainable results in the business.
Interesting fact:
Nowadays, B2B marketing evolving into B2C marketing practices.
Why? Because marketing is all about understanding humans. Thus, now B2B marketers realize that; in the end, they are also selling to humans working in the companies.
As always, once you have a business-to-human (B2H) mindset. You are one step ahead of your competition.
This is also the short story of why I branded my agency name as B2H.
